Become a Certified Scuba Diver with the Motor City Scuba Private Class

If you've always wanted to learn to scuba dive, discover new adventures or simply see the wonderful world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. It's the best scuba class in Michigan!

 What You Learn

There are two steps to becoming a certified scuba diver:

  1. Training (knowledge development & confined water practice dives) to understand basic principles of scuba diving and to learn and master basic scuba diving skills
  2. Open Water Certification Dives to demonstrate your mastery of scuba skills in open water, to explore and to earn your scuba certification!

Prerequisites

To enroll in the course, you must:

  • Have guardian’s active participation if 12-14 years of age
  • Be accompanied by a parent/guardian for all training if under age 16
  • Have written parent/guardian approval if under age 18
  • Be able to swim 300 meters continuously with mask, snorkel and fins
  • Be able to tread/float in deep water for at least 10 minutes

The Fun Part

The fun part about this course is...well, just about all of it, because learning to scuba dive is incredible. You'll breathe underwater for the first time (something you'll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver. During the course, you'll do your training dives in a pool, and then four dives at local dive sites under the supervision of your Instructor.

The Scuba Gear You Use

You will learn to use basic scuba gear including a mask, snorkel, regulator, buoyancy compensator, weight system, alternate air source, tank, dive computer, wetsuit and standard accessories.

Learning Materials You Use

Computer-based materials cover basic scuba diving skills, terminology and safety procedures using interactive exercises and giving you immediate feedback.

PLEASE NOTE: For COVID-19 health safety, to allow appropriate distancing, all pool instruction will be conducted on a private basis—with only one student and one instructor in the pool at a time (until circumstances allow otherwise). Pool skills are currently conducted outdoors.
